Stringent guidelines are followed when an HP computer is refurbished.  All defective parts are replaced with working parts.  No unit can have scratches or abrasions which exceed one inch on the primary viewing plane.

A refurbished laptop or computer is not one that has been in service for a long period of time.  They are not used computers.  These computers come from the following sources:

• Cancelled orders
• Customer return units for some reason
• Overstocks by dealers
• Evaluation units
• Cosmetically blemished laptops
• Older discontinued laptops

When these laptops are returned to HP, they are tested and any non-working components are replaced with working parts in order to bring the laptop up to a full functional condition.

Generally HP refurbished computers have a 90-day limited warranty which can be upgraded by purchasing an HP Care Pack which will extend the coverage on the hardware from 2 to 3 years.  It also includes service enhancements such as pick-up and return services and next business day response time (depending on package).

In addition to the warranty a refurbished laptop/notebook comes with a power cord, battery pack, instruction manual and Microsoft certification.

After an HP product has been refurbished, the part number is changed to reflect the refurbishment level.  An “R” is added before the pound (#) sign or, is added to the seventh or eighth position of the part number, to reflect a refurbished part. For example: 123456#ABA would change to 123456R#ABA or part number 123456 would change to 123456R.

If you need to search HP’s product reference library for any information regarding one of these parts then revert the part number back to its original part number.

Laptops are not the only products that can be purchased as refurbished.  HP refurbishes printers, notebooks, desktops, workstations and tablet PCs.

Don’t forget that one of the main reasons to purchase a refurbished HP laptop is reduced price.  These laptops are not always available immediately.  You may have to watch and wait to get the laptop that you want.
