Refurbished Laptop Battery
Refurbished Laptop Batteries
A laptop's battery seems to be one of the first things to die. Especially if you have one of the older Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) batteries.
The NiCad batteries are those older versions that have the dreaded "memory effect". This means that if you recharge a NiCad battery before completely drained, then the longevity of the battery is shortened.
The other type battery you might have is the Nickel Metal Hybrid (NiMH) which has twice the capacity as the NiCad battery but is also fast becoming a rare commodity.
Today's battery is the Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery. They have zero "memory effect" and zero toxins that harm the environment. In addition, they have half the weight of the NiMH batteries.
Most retailers and manufacturers of refurbished laptops usually have refurbished laptop batteries available. A refurbished battery is restored to new status, recharged and tested.
In addition, major manufactures, like Dell and HP, have Outlet Stores on their website where you can buy refurbished batteries and other refurbished items at a discounted price.
Usually, they will offer the same limitied warranty for a refurbished battery as they do for new batteries.
Some practices that you might want to consider to help extend the life of your laptop battery are:
- Turn off excessively bright monitor settings
- Turn off any networking devices when not in use
- Switch to power-save mode if your laptop has this feature
- If your laptop has a universal bay you can install a second battery
